Sunday Morning at St.Andrew's Church Harlestone. by carolmw

Sunday Morning at St.Andrew's Church Harlestone.

St.Andrew's Church is built of local quarried stone and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It's present Nave and Chancel dates back to the 14th century,so it has seen worship for over 600years.The pulpit, formed of fine carved wooden panels,is reputedly from Fotheringay Castle. The tower has a peal of six bells, the largest of which-the tenor, weighs one tonne. The roof and all metal work is treated with Smart Water unique identification marks in precaution against theft. However, the following extract from the "Northampton Mercury"(May 15th,1824) shows that church theft is not a modern day phenomenon--"Ten Guineas Reward.Whereas some person or persons did late on Wednesday night,or early on Thursday morning last, did break into the Parish Church of Harleston in the county of Northampton and take therefrom the Community Plate. Whoever will give information to the Church-Wardens,of the above Parish so that the offender or offenders may be convicted, shall receive Ten Guineas Reward." Many thanks to you all for your kind comments and favs in the last few days.

Beautiful shot, I like the pov and the light. Thank you, too, for the info. It was very interesting to read.
I wonder if anyone received the reward? 10 guineas would have been a fortune to a lot of people in 1824!

Looks very similar to our village church. The stone is almost identical, but we are only about 8 miles from the Northants border.
