@joemuli @anotherhouseblog Yes. And I'm unable to unscrew the filter....

Oh Dear, but that's what it's for. Try an elastic band, one that will fit snuggly around the filter.

I feel your pain! As you say, thank goodness for filters!
December 28th, 2017
Whew! A close call. Money well spent!

Perhaps should have mentioned, the purpose of the elastic band is to achieve better grip when trying to remove a stuck filter. It's always worked for me.

@gamelee Thank you Lee, I had suspected it, but didn't have an elastic band at home, os I went to the photo shop (not Photoshop) where they tried in vain and then said it should be sent to the factory, but not before the 8th of January. So the glass was completely broken and taken out and I'll be able to use the camera for one more week. thank you for your help, I really appreciated it

Oh this is sickening!

How awful! Hope the lens is ok.
December 29th, 2017
Oh dear, what a scare! I think I would have cried!!!
December 30th, 2017
Thank you @30pics4jackiesdiamond it is not finished yet, because the ring cannot be removed unless it is cut. And to do it without damaging the lens it must go to Nikon!!
December 30th, 2017
Oh Caterina, I was so busy the last days, I did not see this. What a shock indeed. This is so sad to see. I really hope Nikon can safe the lense. Keep my fingers crossed.
December 30th, 2017
Thank you @mona65, I hope so to. I will send the lens out after the 12th of January!😜
December 31st, 2017
Oh no... bad luck... Good luck after the 12th of January, I hope!

Bad luck. Reminds me of the Rolling Stones tune, "Shattered". I, too, found that I had a shattered filter on the end of my lens on Christmas Night. Except, I have no ide how it happened. I only discovered it, when taking off the lens cap, after taking the lens out of a very well padded camera case. But that's why we all use filters. They can save us all a lot more grief. Also, for taking off the filters, they sell very inexpensive plastic tools for gripping the filters. They only cost five or ten dollars and they remove a variety of different size filters. You might try one of those before sending it away for repairs. And don't forget to order a new filter right away.

Thank you very much @mbrutus. I didn’t know those tools existed. I’ll look up in YouTube or Amazon.
January 3rd, 2018
@caterina it might be called a filter wrench.
January 3rd, 2018
@mbrutus great news. My son was able to remove the filter’s ring with tweezers without damaging the lens. We have then ordered many new filters for all the lenses!

@caterina that is great news. Glad to hear it. Filters have possibly saved two of my lens from br along and who knows how many scratches. Another tip would be to just try loosening and re-tightening your filters every once in a while to keep them from getting permanent affixed to the lens. That can stink too.

I got the same problem few years ago. I had to broke completely the glass of the filter to avoid scratches on the lens because a big piece got stuck between the filter and the lens. It wasn't a nice moment, but the lens has survived.
