Murikami House, at the Britannia Shipyards, was the home of Otokichi Murikami and his wife Osaya. Otokichi was a boatbuilder and fisherman, Osaya worked in the canneries and raised their ten children in a small, two bedroom house. In 1942 the federal government forcibly removed the Murakamis (along with 23,000 other Japanese), confiscating and selling their property and sending them to Manitoba. Not one of Canada’s finer moments. Their home has been reconstructed from drawings, photographs and the recollections of their children and is now part of the Britannia Shipyards historical display.

Wonderful shot and great processing. Amazing history and oh so sad. How wonderful that it has been restored. Years ago we saw a movie which was based on facts, I shed quite a few tears.
I love this, especially when viewed on black. That window just glows and draws you outside while the interior details take on an almost ghost like feel.
