North Forty Dog Park by cdcook48

North Forty Dog Park

The North Forty is, as its name implies, a forty acre off leash dog park. It was established by the Air Force as a training base for pilots during during the Second World War. After the war it became a wireless communications centre for the Armed Forces (the runways became part of the Boundary Bay Airport for private aircraft.) It had houses for married servicemen and their families and barracks for the single men. There was a baseball diamond, basketball courts and a wading pool for the children. It was decommissioned in 1971 and all the buildings were demolished. The network of roads remains, sans cars, as does the remnants of the wading pool. It is a favourite nesting area for eagles and the roads and fields are much used and enjoyed by dog owners and their best friends.
Lucky dogs and owners who live nearby. I'm loving those twisting branches on the willow tree.

@marlboromaam About 10 minutes after I took this shot the heavens opened up. Of course I was as far away from my car as I could be and of course I didn’t have an umbrella.
