Richmond, where I live, is on an island situated in the mouth of the Fraser River so we are surrounded on all sides by water. Because we are only about 3 feet above sea level we are protected from rising tides by a network of dikes. With climate change bringing rising sea levels Richmond is undertaking an expensive program to raise the heights of the dikes. I spend a lot of time walking along the dikes with my dog and my camera and a number of my favourite trees to photograph are beside the river. Unfortunately, in order to complete reconstruction of the dikes, some of these trees have to go. Today I discovered the demise of another, right where these excavators are working. I understand why they have to go but it still makes me sad. I love trees.

They have a rather crab-like appearance, I think. That glimpse of snowy mountains at the horizon caught my attention, looks just like the Pyrenees here.
Sadly, if they don't build up the dikes you are likely to lose more than the trees. Rising water levels is going to be a problem in a lot of places. The trees that are still there look lovely in this shot.
Glad they are thinking ahead though - this climate problem isn't likely to just go away. Hopefully new trees will soon grow behind the new higher dikes
