These snow geese were digging in the snow (They are snow geese after all) looking for something to eat. Something I just found out, which you can file under "Useless Knowledge", they are only called a gaggle when they are on the ground. Once they take to the air they are called a skein.

I would have loved to have seen a gaggle of these guys when were in Canada. We saw many skeins flying in the distance and one lone goose that was still too far away for a decent shot. (See it wasn't such useless information after all. )
Good to know about the gaggle and skein. But a skein is a hank or ball of yarn. I will have to think about this to see if how the word is used would sort out the meaning.
@randystreat The collective nouns don’t often make sense. Murder of crows, for example. But they are rather fun. (Actually, now that I think about it it, when I hear a group of crows doing their awful caw, caw, cawing I feel like murdering them so maybe it makes sense after all:)
