This really is my guilty pleasure, and it is black so it fits for both challenges!
My husband and I never make major purchase that we don't make together. He is very supportive about my new hobby but I'm sure neither of us realized just how expensive it was going to be. I thought if I bought the camera body that I could take any photo that I wanted! How foolish that seems now. This is my third Tamron lens - and I've loved every one of them. This particular one has made me feel the most guilty. How often do you use a wide angle lens? I am a very happy macro photographer. I love to find the smallest part I can of the flower and then use my manual focus to decide just what I want to show someone else about my find. But we are hoping to go to Maui in January paid for by Terminix. I want those beach shots! I want the rolling vistas and gorgeous sundowns.
I love months same as cash and the guy at the camera store loves me. But he matches the lowest on line price I find and then he lets me take the lens home for a test period of two weeks and I can return it if I can't take the shot I want. And of course you know the rest of that story. So meet my latest months same as cash purchase.
Wonder what I need next......
Congrats on your new toy - can't wait to see your wide angle photos. A wide angle lens is also on my wish list. As for expense - remember - if you are using a digital cameras you don't have to buy film - so its more upfront cost.
A great investment.
I just bought a 10-20mm Sigma lens last weekend, after thinking long and hard about it. "Do I really need it ?" was what I kept asking myself.
Well, no, I don't "need" it, but boy am I glad now that I bought it. I have hardly taken it off the camera, my 365 posts will prove that, and I am having so much fun with it.
Enjoy your new toy.
Boy, I do understand! I have the Canon 16-35 mm wide angle and I certainly don't use it the way I do the macro lens or the biggest zoom. . .but when I am traveling, I am always OH SO GLAD to be able to pull that one out! I think you'll find other fun ways to use it, too, Cathy - just wait till you squeeze yourself up into a corner of a room and realize that you capture just about anything, everything and everybody within! Enjoy. . .
LOL! Love your new toy, Cathy! I did all the lens, filters, special effects attachments, bells and whistles with my film camera. I can easily refrain from doing it in digital - for the moment! Wonderful shot! I hope you get your trip to shoot all those things you want to! Wishing you every success for it!
If you can afford it, buy all kind of lens that you want. You will need it in certain situation. But the only thing...u need to carry them all with you...heavy heavy and heavy!!!
How wonderful, Cathy! I would love to get a wide-angle lens. Always said that I just wanted a telephoto ... and then I got the 28-300mm. Which is great! But a wide-angle would be great too! It never ends, does it. This will definitely be GREAT for your trip and can't wait to see your photos! The ONLY thing that I don't like is the "weight!" After an hour or so, my arm and hands are tired. Still, it's worth it.
Great lens, Cathy. I already spend far too much time using my little point and shoot, so I can imagine I'd go completely into overdrive with one of these!
You're going to have some fun with that!
Wide-angles are interesting. You either never use them, or never take them off! When I'm on holiday, mine rarely leaves the camera. :)
Yes, this is one expensive passion! But - great lenses are lifetime investments that you never have to make again (until you get the itch for another lens!!). Enjoy it, don't look back, just look ahead through the viewfinder, in awe of the great shots you'll take!
I think you will absolutely love this in Maui, and any other time you want a wide angle shot! I love macro too but I feel a wide angle is a must have in any collection. Great purchase. Great lens. enjoy:)
I have this lens too! I bought it before our last vacation to Argentina to get those 1 1/2 mile wide water falls at Iquazu. You will love it. I also think it is super for close up shots and group shots. Many uses for it. I don't use it on landscape as much as I thought I would, as it also includes so much in the foreground that you don't want, but zoomed up, it does better...since you have had it for the trial period, I am sure you have figured that all out.
