I'm using this shot today of Ashley as she faces (literally) her reconstructive surgery after having an aggressive carcinoma removed from her nose on Friday. We saw her yesterday and she was not exaggerating the size of the hole on the side of her nose. It's well over 1/4 inch across and quite deep. They had to go in three times to get clear margins. She is 27. So, I ask for prayers for this granddaughter of mine that came into my life when she was 15 - not the easiest age. She has grown into a lovely young woman - inside and out. They are going to cut all along the bottom of her eye and up to her forehead and then bring all that together. Later she will have dermabrasion to minimize the scaring. Obviously the important part is that they got all of this quite aggressive cancer. Thank God she was smart enough to go to her dermatologist - but she thought she just had something unsightly that she wanted removed.
So, my soapbox for today is sunscreen and plenty of it! I had several of these many years ago but luckily on my back. I can go to any beach today and you will never realize I've been in the sun. I use a #100. And please, everyone should have a good checkup at a Dermatologist at least once to make sure that any irregularity - and we all have them - is nothing but your particular irregularity. Because she went she will live to raise my great grandson Aiden who is also in this shot.
What a beautiful girl... I wish her well with her surgery! I had a biopsy done on the end of my nose a few years ago but was relieved that it was not cancerous. I always wear sunscreen and nag my child about it too!! It truly is so important in today's world.
Bless her heart. Beautiful girl and such a cute little boy. Praying all goes well. Thank you for spreading the sunscreen message...so important! You are awesome!!!
I'll be thinking of her on Friday. Hope all goes well. You're preaching to the choir about sunscreen here - skin cancer runs in my family and I did stupid stuff in my teens, like slather myself in baby oil. Prevention is the cure!
Beautiful photo of them both, and how courageous and inspiring Ashley is. I'm sure you immensely proud of her and I wish her all the best for her recovery :)
