I am saying goodbye to the annual Butterfly Show at Krohn Conservatory. This is my second or third year of spending significant time there with my camera. I love it. They soothe me and excite me at the same time. Their beauty amazes me and flight is sheer joy to behold. I'm going to miss them.
After this much time there it isn't often that I see one that I haven't seen before - but my last two visits gifted me with new additions to my collection. I wish this one was on something more colorful, but maybe that would have detracted from his coloring. I love the subtle purples. Let me know if you know what he is.
And now for the rest of the story - I think my oldest son has decided to get a divorce. In the midst of Dad and Grandma dying he has been struggling with some really tough decisions. We have been discussing this since we were cleaning out his Dad's stuff. I feel much more at peace after talking to him for the last several hours this morning. And I have to say that I am over the moon about him moving home. I have missed him and Garrett so very much. This decision will bring a lot of heartache along with it. But, I now think that it is for the best - and it is not my decision to make. I can only support him in what he is doing and be the safe harbor that my parents were for me when I made this same decision all those many years ago. And just look how life turned out for me! I pray for the same for my son and grandson.
Life is changing rapidly around me. But doesn't it always?
@allie912 You have a lot of faith in me Allison! It's a great shot Cathy and I have looked through my Audubon book and four websites!! (both moth and butterfly) and I can't find it! It is such an interesting critter- I agree with Myrna- the body looks like a moth. But the wings are more like a butterfly. I'd say it's not a moth only because the antennae are not bushy like a moth's but the body is not shaped at all like a butterfly's body! So, my thought is to go to the Krohn Conservatory website and see if you can contact them to ask them what it is. I'm pretty sure they'd know what's fluttering around in there! I don't think moths and butterflies cross bread- but this one would be a good candidate for it if they do! Good shot!
@olivetreeann Thanks for all your research! I have to go and ask them. Problem is it is mostly volunteers for the show and the guy in the back who comes out every now and again with a crate of the newly hatched. This is just so different for me.
@cdonohoue I know- it was not matching anything! What I was thinking is that maybe the person who oversees the Krohn Observatory website might be able to put you in touch with the person who chose which butterflies to hatch etc. Just a thought. Either that or track that fellow with the box down- lol it sounds like something out of the Wizard of Oz. Who is the man behind the curtain? Don't forget to let us know if you do find out what it is!
Bless your heart my dear friend! you have been through so much recently and it sounds as if it still isn't over! I know you will love to have your son and grandson close to you again even if the cost is so high! You are such a good persn and the rock of your family. I know they appreciate your steadfast support! God bless you and yours, Cathy!
Butterflies are free, happiness is not. It sometimes comes with a cost but the result is good. You sound such a strong person, Cathy, I'm sure your family will benefit and be happy again!
