Most of you know that Maggie has Addison's Disease. Now, after 4 years of monthly injections and daily meds we are all pretty used to the routine. Those first couple of months after her diagnosis were agonizing. Was I doing things right, did all of the injection go in, why isn't she eating. All of the signs and symptoms were upper most in our minds. We watched her like a hawk, did blood work every month to find her lowest effective dose of the liquid gold, did the poop report every day (very indicative of what is going on inside an Addison's dog). It is obvious that we both love her and have spent a small fortune with her prior "random" illnesses and the huge expense of an Addisonian Crash -$2,000 at the doggie ER.
But today it is so easy we hardly ever think of it. The injection day is marked on the calendar. She dances over to the drawer where I keep her pills after she eats breakfast because she knows she gets her "pill time" in a spoonful of peanut butter.
Every year the large internet support group that we are part of puts out a calendar of dogs to raise money for support for new dogs and research into the disease. I think one of this series of shots will be my entry this year.
Great photo of Maggie and how nice it will be to see her in a calendar. it is great that you have been able to maintain her good health and is quite clear that it is worth every cent. Delightful photo! Fav!
Great shot for the calendar. Mr friend's dog had the same condition - they hada a terrible time until it was diagnosed, and a few scary times after that too.
