I participate in this wonderful community on google+ that is the Scavenger Hunt thanks to Elke Hochban who introduced me to it and Chrysta Rae who dreamed it and runs it. It is billed as the most fun that you can have with your camera - and it is. 500 photographers from around the world are given a list of 10 words and about 6 weeks or so to shoot them. I've had a few 1st places and an honorable mention. This particular shot is closer to who I am than maybe any other that I have shot. I went out and bought a globe and then worked on making blood (apparently next time I need to add a bit of chocolate to the food coloring and karo syrup for more authenticity. Here is what I wrote when I handed this one in.
This word seems so ironic right now. We think of peaceful summer days - but the National Guard has been called out in this country, Israel and Hamas are blowing each other and all the innocents around them sky high and the Ukraine is in crisis mode. We had this. My generation was going to change all of this. In many ways I think we had a measure of success - at least among the mostly like minded folks that I know that insist on peace within and work for the greater Peace. We must all pull together and work even harder to give peace a chance.
So, come on and smile on me brother.
It is never too late to give Peace a Chance.
Not only your photo but your narrative is so powerful. Our generation had so much hope. Who would have been able to predict that decades later our world and at home we would be in such conflict.
A very creative image. As you can see Malta is in the middle of it all. We are all the time afraid of being engulfed in all that is happening to the south and east of our tiny island. As yet our involvement has been humanitarian - saving escaped immigrants from drowning and giving temporary refugee to those who escape war zones. Hope it will remain that way.
@sangwann Dione I did not make that connection. I will add you to my prayers as you are in the thick of it. Bless you for taking the immigrants. When will it end - or will it ever?
