My old man is front and center again today. Last night as we were sitting down to dinner Tom noticed blood on the tiles. Long story shot Chuck has a tumor on his leg that decided to let loose. We knew it was there - but it was just one in a long line of things that happens to 12 year old dogs. Our vet said to bring him in right away. Today he is having surgery to have it removed. Chuck has been on palliative care ever since he ruptured disks in his neck and we decided not to operate. He has been a happy guy for the last two years. He takes Prednisone for inflammation and a pain pill twice a day and he is sort of like me - a little bit slower getting up in the morning but still his happy self. We aren't going to get the tumor biopsied - the vet thinks it's benign. So, a bit over $500 this morning and he should be right as rain (whatever that means - vet says he'll go right on being Charlie). We just weren't ready for yesterday to be "the day." When the day does come that he can't or won't get up - that will be the day.
Keep a good thought for my Great Protector Boy today.
Bless him. 12 years old is a good age and as you say, so long as he's happy you keep going with him. You are obviously looking after him well and giving him lots of love if he is still a happy boy (but then that's what you do when you have a dog). Fabulous photo of a great pose.
This is such a cute shot. Thank you for sharing your story about Chuck. It sounds like you are taking very good care of him and making him comfortable.
Aaaw Bless him --its so hard when they have been part of the family for ever and are not too well --but let's hope the op will give him a new lease of life ! My hugs and good wishes !
Awww sweet Charlie! Keeping thoughts with him and with you. They are such wonderful friends/companions. God made them to help US be better people..I am convinced!!
