Beloved

Yesterday Tom, Andy and I were blessed to attend the anniversary of Beloved Community Church with Pastor Nelson Pierce. Beloved Community is the congregation that we share a building, a theology and our Christianity with at the same address. At the end of the service his mentor asked that Nelson come to the middle and he is the one with the bowed head. He asked that the young come and lay hands on Nelson and the church elders. Then the rest of the congregation. It was a truly power-filled moment for all of us.

I am a 60 year Presbyterian - the "Frozen Chosen." Yesterday's service was filled with emotion packed moments and congregational responses. The music certainly "took me to church." The sermon by Nelson's mentor and friend, Osajeyfou Sekou, moved me at the time and kept Andy, Tom and I talking into the evening.

I heard so many stories of thankfulness, strength and hope. I heard someone speaking in tongues for the first time in my life. I saw and felt such emotion packed moments. Thank you, Beloved Community, for inviting us to share in this incredible service.

We have a similar situation at our Presbyterian church where we share our facilities with a church created by recent African immigrants. You are right; they have a different energy than the mainline Presbyterians!
