Yesterday while I was at work, @nzkites went for a bike ride and explored further along the riverside where we're parked for a few days. He discovered a tree with several groups of pied shags nesting, and took me to see them today. Thanks to his insistence that I take a turn with the long lens we are sharing, I was able to get some closer shots of their activities. I rarely photograph birds (partly from not having a suitable lens to get decent shots of them) and enjoyed this.
This male (?) had just flown back to the nest with a long stick in his beak. The female (?) on the nest took it from him and worked to weave it into the side of the nest.
