My Mama has a green thumb. Once, when I went home for a visit, she gave me a bunch of flower clippings from her yard and told me to bring them home and plant them. I remember in particular that she broke off a branch from a Forsythia bush and said that all I had to do was just “stick it in the ground” and it would grow. She showed me several bushes that she had started that way. Well, it didn’t work for me because I don’t have a green thumb! I love flowers and have a decent size flower garden but I have to work at it.
One flower clipping that she gave me was this purple Phlox. From that one clipping it’s spread throughout my garden and I know I can depend on it showing up this time of year and staying for a few weeks. I always look forward to seeing them, as it reminds me of home.
Yesterday I came home for lunch and had already shut and locked the door to go back to work. I stepped off the porch and saw this beautiful butterfly. I immediately ran back inside, grabbed my camera and took about 30 pictures! It just sat there, like it knew it was being photographed! I had a hard time trying to decide which photo I liked the best but I chose this one.
So this picture is for Mama. It’s lovely, just like her.
It seems to be the week for seeing Eastern Tiger Swallowtails, because I got a pic of one on Tuesday. This is a beautiful shot. The contrast between the pink of hte phlox and the butterfly's yellow, black and blue is stunning!
