2020-12-01 Outside Looking In

Twenty years ago, Christmas trees were quite the novelty in Japan. Now it seems like everywhere has one!
Lovely - nice composition.

What I marveled at a number of years ago when I was in Japan in October is the presence of Halloween. But the funniest thing to be is when a western celebration (valentines) has a Japanese twist (white day) that shows adopted customs take on the local flavor.

@linnypinny Thanks! @jyokota Hallowe'en's a weird one, because Japan already has obon - which is *kinda* originally the same concept... That whole white day shenanigans is just about the mighty yen! Don't buy chocoloates for anyone! But speaking of local flavour, I am still constantly astounded by the KFC obsession on Christmas Day...I got some turkey legs for my Christmas dinner this year, planning on eating them up a mountain. If the weather's good!
