Nooo !!! Not food waste! (but it makes for an interesting photo with such depth). Satsuma cooking/baking? Marmalade? During my time in Poland, the Russian government stopped the import of European foods and turned to China. So there were excess apples and they were being given away in big baskets everywhere. A whole apple presented with your restaurant bill, an apple on your pillow on the hotel, etc. People were baking with apples and making cider and talked about being patriotic to help the farmers. My husband commented that the spirit of the Polish people was evident in times of "national crisis" because losing apple export was indeed, a national crisis for Poland :)

@bkbinthecity Thanks! @kali66 No, it honestly didn’t occur to me until later... although the ones hanging from the trees tempted me. I must be a scrumper at heart(!) @jyokota you know, it’s an interesting topic that you bring up - there’s enough food to feed everybody and meanwhile, farmers get paid to destroy food so as to maintain the prices in so-called developed countries. I prefer the marmalade or apple pie route!
