Peonies Make Everything Better by cjoye

Peonies Make Everything Better

I bought my desk for twenty bucks. It was sitting in a front yard of an unfamiliar neighborhood that I drove through while trying to find my way home. My desk sits in what should be our dining room, squeezed between the kitchen and the living room, right next to the television. To say that I dream about having my own space or office again is an understatement. I sometimes feel guilty for wanting more when I've been given so much, but Virginia Woolf knew what she was talking about when she wrote "A Room of One's Own."

As I type this, I have three little girls asking me to style their American Girl dolls' hair and a little boy playing cars on the floor in front of me. And yet, even as I long for a darling, secluded office where I can immerse myself in creative work, the sight of these five peonies sitting on my desk remind me that it doesn't take much to make a space beautiful--or useful. And so, instead of feeling guilty for being away from my children, I remind myself that I get to hear them play with their toys while I get to play with words and photographs. And that's pretty great.
oh i hear you christine - peonies have to be a wonderful balm! i'm so glad you take the time to play with words and photographs. surely it's important that if possible we do the things we love, as well as making time for our beloved children :)
and of course you will get back more time and space once they've flown the nest, as mine have - and that has its pros and cons ...
as always, i adore the light in your images
