This handsome fellow was very fast! He had a mate, but I didn't get a chance at a shot of her. I got two snaps of him, before he disappeared into the grasses in the water. :0)

Wow, that is some wild coloring!! I have my bird guide here and paged through it to find this guy and was surprised to see that it said they often perch in trees.
A duck in a tree? They must need large branches to give them stable footing. I can't picture it, but I don't have much experience with duckies.
So cool that you were able to get this beautiful shot before he disappeared.
