It was one of those picture days where you see good shots, but you just can't get them. I saw a Pileated Woodpecker from my kitchen window this morning. It was the first one I've seen! I didn't see it, when I went outside.
I spied the hawk today. He was sitting across the field on a round bale of hay. I knew I would never make it across the field in time for a good pic. I took a shot anyway, just to be able to look at it on the computer.
The craziest thing I saw today was a butterfly!!! It flew past me and I had to chase it. I wanted a pic to prove I wasn't halluncinating. I got a pic. It wasn't very good, but I can say I got a butterfly pic in January. :0)
Thank you for your nice comments on my hawk pic yesterday!!!
I saw a pileated woodpecker this past summer that actually landed on a tree right next to me (while I was walking the trails in the woods). I stayed and watched it for several minutes before it took off. It was kind of exciting, but the bad thing is I had my camera with me - but when I went to take a picture I realized I'd left the memory card at home! I was SO upset with myself. I tried for weeks to get that picture again. I did manage to get ONE picture. It wasn't a great one - nothing like the shot I would've had if I hadn't forgotten my memory card - but I was glad to have gotten something. I'm still away from home for work and didn't get back to the motel until late, which means today's another down day, so I'll post my pileated woodpecker as a fill-in.
Terrific Capture of the Cardinal! Like the brilliant red and DOF! Nicely Done, Carolyn! I am glad to hear of others 'chasing' and 'such' - it's not just me :-)
Great timing and DOF. I find birds challenging to photograph. Sometimes, I feel like picking them up and placing them where I want them in my shot. A January butterfly! We are definitely having strange climate changes.
@daisy I know what you mean about the birds. I think I'm getting a good pic and when I look at it on the computer, there will be a little branch or leaf right over some part of the bird. I'll see one in a clear spot and they fly away, before I can focus. I had lots of bad pics to delete today!!!
Beautiful photo. I had lost of pileated woodpecker photos last year ... it's one of those things that once you see them and learn their call you can stalk them and get photos! You'll get one when weather warms up I bet!
I know what you mean about missing a photo op! Drives me crazy!! This is a gorgeous photo! I always love these colorful birds as we don't have them where I live.
Fav!!!! This is awesome!!!!!
There were three blue birds in my back yard this morning....ran to get my camera. Only one when I got back and he flew away as soon as I pointed my camera at him :(
oh wow, i'd have loved to be hanging out with you today! awesome cardinal! i saw the pileated again yesterday too - he flew across the property directly by the window where I sit most of the time. the butterfly wouldn't have been pretty amazing too
I like the way your cardinal is cupped around the chain. We're having rain all day today so I couldn't find birds I'd not shot a hundred times already. I amazed you saw a butterfly.
Wow Carolyn, I must say, in summer you get the most beautiful butterfly pictures and in winter it is the best bird photos. Well done on another very nice photo
