I've been hoping to get a butterfly on a wild Passionflower, but this grasshopper had a different idea. :0)
The Passionflower is Tennessee's state wildflower. It's also called Maypops and Passion Vine. It's a host plant for Gulf Fritillaries and Variegated Fritillaries.
Thank you so much for stopping by my project!!! :0)
Wonderful capture ... the clarity is awesome. That flower is so beautiful. Well, when he moves, you might be able to get that butterfly. Crossing my fingers for you! In the meantime, this is a fabulous photo.
Seriously, you take the most incredible entomology pics! I'm surprised National Geographic hasn't contacted you yet! I'm faving this because that grasshopper looks like he has ALOT of personality! Love it!
Dude made himself quite at home, didn't he!?
Good news! The birthday fairy brought me the NWF Field Guide! My post for the day after my birthday will be a new butterfly (Gorgone Checkerspot, p. 287) identified only with the help of the NWF guide!
I didn't have a chance to look last night - check out mine today that I just posted - matches. Also had a great shot of the passion flower but they weren't together. Saw a question mark butterfly last night - kind of scroungy and couldn't get a good shot. Your guys are traveling west!! Love this shot of yours. Have you come across a milkweed borer yet? They're kind of neat looking.
