This is the closest I've ever gotten to an Eastern Phoebe. I know it saw me, but it didn't seem to be scared.
The Phoebe sits on the end of bare branches and watches for insects. It flies down, catches the insects, and flies back to its perch. This is called hawking. It seemed too cold for insects to me, but I saw it fly down several times.
Thank you so much for your kind responses to yesterday's unlikely pair of birds! :0)
FAV! I love these birds so much. I know it is springtime here when I here her call. We have had a phoebe make a nest each year under the eve of our cabin.
