Note to Self.....

....Don't ever buy 40 pounds of sunflower seeds again for the feeders. What a mess with all the shells everywhere! Just get a nice mix and the birds will be happy and I'll be happy!
Lovely little bird, and capture of it. I stopped buying seeds because the squirrels were the ones having the party and eating the fruits of my trees.

Sunflower hearts are the things to buy . They don't make a mess with that as the outer coating has been taken off already. Problem with that is sunflower hearts on more expensive to buy! Pretty bird.

Great little bird - what kind is it? I love seeing all the wildlife from around the globe on this site - I'm learning so much!

Remind me to tell you about the time we used sunflower seeds to melt the ice on the greens of the golf course I managed

@anazad511 Thanks for the comment. For some reason we don't have squirrels in our little town. I guess we don't have enough trees, so at least I can be sure the birds get the seeds.

@shepherdmanswife You are right about the sunflower seed hearts.... and about them being expensive! I'm about to finish this 40 lb bag, so I'll find something cheap but not so messy.

@mothermalarky Thanks, Carol for your comment. This is a house finch and they are common here on the high plains of Texas. I really never noticed them (I thought they were sparrows) until I started taking photos of my bird feeder. Yes, I'm learning a lot on here also!!

Wonderful shot! I like that you caught him with the seed in his beak.
