When I was in Paris in 2010, I ate in a cafe which had a French man singing songs in English with a very strong American accent. It was most peculiar and quite disappointing. My brother said English is the new French. When I was there in 2005, it was quite the opposite. Nobody wanted to speak English. I wonder what next year will bring...
@sheliwithani se puede hablar en español también ! (in Spanish.... :)
You know I'm a French living in Switzerland (the german speaking part) and most of the time I speak english (even if the 4 official languages, german, french, italian and romanche, don't include it).
But 40% of the population of the town I live in (Basel) come from abroad (and don't speak a word of the 4) and mostly are english native speakers, so everybody has to find a common language, and English has won the battle...as everywhere I think...
It was hot and this was refreshing ! I loved the "italian" colors !
