The end of a mystery ....

As a French I never understood why the "French fries" are called like that....because in France we use to say that it's from Belgium, and the Belgium fries are the best I have ever eat, I've got a Belgium friend who cook the "French fries" with art !

BTW... Why NY is called the big apple ?

Pourquoi New York est appelé "Big Apple"? Outre la campagne touristique démarrage il y a 40 ans, il y a quelques théories flottant autour. Une histoire a ce qu'il y a une centaine d'années, il y avait de nombreuses pistes cheval avec des prix- -appelé "pommes" et le prix le plus important de tout, c'était d'être à New York, c'est-à-dire, la "big apple". De même, dans les années 1930, musiciens jazz dirais que vous a fait avec les grands concerts dans la "big apple", c'est-à-dire New York.

Je ne suis pas convaincu que la question apple n'est pas encore entièrement répondu- -nous n'en sommes pas encore arrivés au cœur du mystère. Toutefois, pour votre prochaine affectation, le "hot dog" ...

As amazing as this might be, I don't speak French. Therefore I was unable to read Michael's answer to your "Big Apple" question. I will only add this. New York State among other things, is known for it's wonderful apple orchards. The term also may be in reference to a big city. It may also have its roots in horse racing where apples were awarded. Certainly the I Love NY ad campaigns of the 1970's and '80's featured the term Big Apple, so that lent to the popularity. Tough to say exactly why and how the moniker was born. French fries? No idea...lol
