Every now and then, when I walk into the bookstore not knowing what I’m looking for, I close my eyes, walk up and down the aisles, and with eyes still closed, pick a few books out at random. I avoid the aisles with the romance and young-adult, the Colleen Hoover and the Happy Place or Bridgerton type books.
Today I landed up with these two. At the moment I have no clue what they’re about other than just reading the cover blurb; I'll find out more during the week.
I like the art and font work on The Supreme Lie bookcover; I may start with that book. Rain, waves, dogs, woman, with that startling red umbrella standing out against the black and grey tones. My curiosity is piqued.
I've picked out a few duds using this method, but mostly I end up pleasantly surprised; they're books out of my normal reading choice, and I've enjoyed the different genres. I would never have chosen the books I ended up with if I were actively and intently browsing the bookshelves.
The previous time I ended up with My Dark Vanessa, and 1816:The Year Without Summer. Both thoroughly eye-opening books, I enjoyed them immensely.

Yes. And I cannot tolerate a Kindle or any other gadget where one reads a book from a screen. We spend most of our lives looking at a screen of some sort - I can't face still reading a book from a screen.
very interesting titles. i read books, whatever genre, by reading the opening sentence or the first page, if neither of those grab my attention, i don't read it. i begrudgingly got into kindle when i was given a hefty book called 'the goldfinch'. i couldn't bring the book anywhere but i was so hooked a quarter through so i got a kindle. anything over 500 pages, i get it on kindle. i hope you enjoy these titles.

The Goldfinch - a wonderful read! But yes, heavy and cumbersome. Kindle definitely has its advantages; I hope one day I’ll get used to the thing.
