January 10 2011 was a dark day in Queensland's history with flash flooding in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley claiming many lives. In the days that followed, the water moved on from the Lockyer Valley via the Brisbane River with flood waters affecting parts of the capital city.
I had not been widowed long at the time and news that a childhood friend had not only been widowed in that event, but also suffered the loss of a child really hit me hard.
So today, I choose not to post one of the myriad of photos I took at the Gallery of Modern Art, but rather this shot of the Brisbane River looking so calm and serene in memory of the lives lost.
Beautiful photo. While not physically affected, it allowed me to reaffirm my pride in being a Queenslander. My daughter and I volunteered in the flood zone and it was a humbling experience.
I hope 2012 is a year of happiness for you and your friend. :)
@johnkratofil thank you @brizmako a very sad time for many people... @jacktion4 well done you, and thank you for the sentiment. @peterdegraaff indeed it was @filsie65 Just knowing that another of my friends had been widowed was hard..... but so very hard for so many people. @swilde thanks... @myautofocuslife thanks
Beautiful capture, Amanda. It's amazing it's been a year already. So much heartache around that time. Andy's parents live in Toowoomba and I have friends who were very close to devastation when it came down through the valley and into Brisbane. I found so much of it surreal. I hope that a year on, some of the scars are just a little healed. Thoughts to you and your friend xoxo.
@jacktion4 I totally agree, Jack. So many people made me so proud to be a Queenslander. I couldn't volunteer with small kids but we donated what we could and I have some new friends born from tragedy. @mandando talking about you!!
