Not a technically good photo, but one that captures the excitement of catching a fish (albeit an ugly, inedible toadfish).
It was 'Take a Kid Fishing Day' run by the lovely fol at Sunfish - each child was given a rod, plenty of bait and there were many helpers there to bait hooks, cast, unsnag and detangle lines. Sadly, all the recent rain meant that any self-respecting fish had high-tailed it out of the bay, but K caught a little trumpeter and this ugly toad .... and she couldn't have been happier!

She had a greattime. @tulipgirl The sad thing was that Mum and Dad caught heaps of beautiful bream from the same spot a few days earlier (before the rain). @aleksandra she's caught plenty of whiting before, but for some reason, the toad fish really tickled her fancy.
@ozziehoffy Sunfish have groups all over Qld. They do regular kids fishing days, but once a year, they do a special one where kids are given rods and reels. tackle box and a few other things ...and all for free. Dad is a local member so put us on to the special day. Kids are fired up to go again next month (where they bring their own stuff and go fishing).
@corymbia oh wow, sounds awesome... will have to check that out, Oskar loves fishing... well, they both do, the attention span is still a little short from both of them though.
@corymbia I don't know if I'm looking in the right place anyway... and pfft WHS... I'll just put Andy onto them, that's what he does at work hahahaha... nah kidding... WHS these days is a bit OTT in a lot of ways/places but what can we do.
@lorraineb thanks @ozziehoffy oh I agree completely! Some ridiculous rules out there... @peterdegraaff yes - it wasn't a great day for fishing, but they all had fun - catching something is always fun.
@corymbia Hope she is better and gets a chance to go back this weekend... fishing is a pretty wholesome activity... my son began fishing when he was a child, and that hobby has turned into an obsession! Would be nice if he could make a career of it!
@calm wouldn't it be nice to have a career based around what you love to do? (I kinda do, but could deal with less paperwork!).
Next good tide (rather - convenient tide) is in late March so we plan to go again then.
