Not sure what camera your using Lesley but your F stop controls the DOF which will send the wings out of focus, your shot was f2.8 looking at the EXIF below the photo details this is a very shallow depth of fielld, try settings over F4 up to f8 you will probably get more detail in the wings and tail .... hope that helps
