Lest we Forget by cruiser

Lest we Forget

today marks the 100th anniversary of the first Aussie soldiers going off to World War 1. Our local war memorial commemorates 9 young men from our district who gave their lives.
The bottom right photo is one I took when this new area was set aside to hold the memorial plinths which were originally under 9 pine trees (shown top right) After nearly 100 years some of the trees have died and it was decided to create this new memorial. Yesterday was the anniversary of Private A.E. Watchman who was killed in France in 1917 aged 25.
What a poignant collage. Very thoughtful but excellent photos too

@pittcj17 thankyou Cindy. Its lovely to walk along the path in the shade of the pine trees that were lovingly planted nearly 100 years ago. I always think of those young men every time I go past.
