Gig oars..... by cutekitty

Gig oars.....

....there were several Gig racing boats training at Gorran Haven when we gigged there last weekend. Gig racing is hugely popular here in the West Country with well fought competitions every year. There are men, women and young people's teams. These type of boats were originally 'Pilot boats' who raced from the shore to guide the cargo boats into harbour......so the fastest teams got the job......!
Very nice shot. How many persons in each boat? Looks like everyone is carrying his oars.

Great action shot with the Gig rowers walking with a purpose.
We have two clubs close by but never tried it (yet).
