Arches

Today we left Sussex behind, and headed off through Surrey (another County I don't know) stopping off at Guildford Cathedral.
Worried about parking we ignored the road signs and approached the Cathedral from the adjoining housing estate...
Had we carried on we would have discovered a massive car park and saved ourselves a slog up the hill, but exercise is good for you, we consoled ourselves...
The Cathedral was consecrated in the 60's but designed & started pre the second world war.
The inside is mainly concrete, like Coventry, but it has a completely different feel. Coventry was build post war as a symbol of reconciliation and peace after great pain and suffering. Guildford has a purer more aesthetic feel, simple arches repeating and an incredible amount of light pouring through the mainly clear windows. I have visited quite a few Cathedrals and Guildford is definitely one of my favourite.
I would highly recommend a visit. it feels like a place of worship rather than a tourist attraction and the guides were really friendly and welcoming.

The refectory is a popular stopping off point for coaches, so beware the senior citizens on a 10 minute stop!
