For the first two days of February, the Black White Photography Book Club is doing abstracts and fine arts photos. I decided to try to do a black and white of the orchid blossoms. Following Micahel Freeman's advice (in Black and Whtie Digital Photograpyy), I studied the orchids first to see what I wanted to portray. I wanted to portray the airy feel of the blossoms and the details of the blossoms. I chose to do the orchids in black and white because I wanted to bring out more details than I have been able to bring out in my color photos of the orchid blossoms. I was happy with this result, but I see that I have room to improve in my black and white photography (and that is why I chose to do the black white photography club).
It's very nice. The white background does give you that airy feel. I wonder if you might be able to do another with the plant's "face" showing and still be able to accomplish that feeling.
@olivetreeann Thanks! I would like to try to photograph the faces of the blossoms. My background kept falling down and I had my husband hold it up. He had other things to do besides being my assistant, or I would have turned the flower pot around. I would like to photograph the blossoms facing the other way.
