When a leaf becomes like this, do you view this as decay or beauty? To me, there is often a certain type of beauty to be found in leaves in this state of decay. The intricate details of the leaf can be more easily seen. Instead of being solid green, there are various color tones and a color graduation. I tried to shoot this leaf with strong back lighting to show off even more of the details and the translucency. However, the light was diffuse due to cloudy skies. I posted a photo of this same leaf (but in BW) on March 5th. I believe that the day was cloudy then too. Perhaps I will be able to shoot this on a sunny day in the future. I would also like to try to shoot the leaf at a slightly different angle to see how the resulting photo looks. I am certainly glad that I brought this leaf indoors, as it provides all kinds of photo ops.
There is definitely beauty in the way a leaf decays. The cloudy skies may have worked in your favor though because sunny days often bring a lot of shadows as well- which may have erased some of the detail on this delicate leaf. It will be fun to experiment with it though. Good shot!
@olivetreeann Thanks! With the ever changing sky conditions, it will be interesting to experiment with what this looks like in the sunny conditions and in cloudy conditions. (If I can get the time to shoot in both)
