As the wheel turns

Throughout the day the light and shadows play across this old cultivator wheel. This wheel is a decorative touch to my back deck.

In Chapter 8 of the book, Extraordinary Everyday Phtography, the authors talk about light. They say that high contrast can present a problem when the contrast makes the scene difficult to see in a photo. However, contrast can make the subject stand out from the background and make the form & shape more intersting. A thin layer of clouds covered the sun. If the sunlight would have been full force, this photo would have had more contrast. The authors say to convert to black and white if you want more contrast. This is what I did for this photo.
The contrast really does show up quite well in the b&w and your focus is wonderful.

You've harnessed the light perfectly for the spokes while the background remains an obscure black. Well done!
