A First by daisymiller

A First

I was one of the artists at the first Gift of Art Sale. The sale was sponsored by the local center for the arts. The artists came from the local art association. The sale was held in the lobby and in the art gallery portions of the arts center. This was my very first art association sale. Most of us have lots to learn about how to market our art. Looking at this shot, I can tell that I need some type of polyester fabric (that will not wrinkle) to cover my table. In 2017, the art association plans to explore methods and techniques of how to market art. One of our members did sell a lot. He goes to art shows and sales, including juried ones, throughout the nation. He gave me a few starting pointers. I am grateful for any help the more experienced ones give me.
Brilliant.

@la_photographic @milaniet @linnypinny @beryl @sangwann Thanks for all of your comments. It was exciting to be able to sell my photos and photo products at the art center. I felt humble to have my sale table in the middle of one of the three art galleries there. One of my photos was on exhibit in this art gallery. Another one of my framed photos was in the first art gallery. That photo had sold a few weeks ago. The lady who bought the photo met me and asked me if she could take the photo home. I got permission for this and wrapped up the photo for her. She was thrilled to get the photo. I was thrilled to meet her and to know that she liked the photo. The sale was not a good money maker for me. I only made 10 dollars over the entry fee. Many of the artists did not do well at this sale. Most of us are learning about marketing our art. I learned several things about selling by being at this sale. Meeting the people who came to the sale and learning how to sell art were the things I value from this sale.

Good for you Daisy! This is an area I have not ventured in to (and probably won't) but there are several folks in our club that do. Their tablecloths are black and I think it makes the photos stand out more. So when you consider replacing the white one, you may want to take that into consideration. One other thing that they always seem to mention is that you can never tell what will sell and what won't. There are some subjects that always seem popular but there will be days when even those won't sell. I think it's a matter of sticking to it and printing what you are proud of. Eventually it does sell, but sometimes it takes time. Best wishes in your new endeavor!
