Wind Farm by daisymiller

Wind Farm

On the way home from our three day weekend vacation, we passed by a large wind farm. This photo shows only two of the wind turbines. There were close to two dozen wind turbines. They were put in place since we drove by this area in last September. I found the wind farm to be an eerie place. The blades turned slowly, but made no sound. I expected them to make a sound like the blades of a wind turbine makes in my city. This wind farm is controversial. There was one sign advertising the wind farm and another sign protesting the wind farm. When I returned home, I looked up information about this wind farm controversy. Two pros of the wind farm were listed in the information I found. One pro was that this is one way to "go green" (using a natural source to produce electricity). Another pro is the income drawn from having a wind turbine on your property. I found more cons than pros listed. One con is that wind turbines are not efficient energy producers. The turbines cause effects on the health of people. The noise is said to bother people (note: I heard no noise from these particular turbines, but I was not close to the wind turbines). The wind turbines are said to harm flying birds. People's feelings seem to be quite strong on either side of the argument for and against wind farms. It is interesting that the wind turbine in my city is on the grounds of the local college. The turbine was placed there so the students could learn about alternative energy and so that the turbine could produce some of the electricity the college needs. I have not heard too much about the success or failure of the college's wind turbine. Now, I am curious about this issue and I want to know more.
