This female squirrel is very smart. I bought a squirrel proof bird feeder so she would not wreck it or eat all of the bird seed. After two months of detective work, she figured out how to get sunflower seeds from this feeder. She goes down the feeder head first. She pushes her back feet upwards, which prevents the outer cage (the squirrel proofing) from moving downward. when the cage moves downward, it closes up the bird seed ports from the hungry squirrel. After she has disarmed the squirrel proof cage, the squirrel is then able to eat the bird seed from a port. I am a bit amused and a bit disgusted by this smart squirrel.
