December 17: Sunflower by daisymiller

December 17: Sunflower

I walked around my garden when the temperatures rose to the 50s. I took pictures of the dried sunflowers. The sunflowers bloomed almost up to the time of the first snowfall. I left many of the sunflower stalks in the garden, because of the birds. The birds like to eat the sunflower seeds. They also like to perch on the sunflower stalks in the wintertime.
Lovely shot - nice to feed the birds like this !

Even though it's withered this sunflower still has a joyful stance- maybe because it still has something to do for others. Nice capture!

Looks like a monster bug or spider at this stage. Beautiful clear capture.

@beryl Thanks. We do not have many birds so far this winter. I think the birds really flew south this winter.

@olivetreeann Thank you. I like leaving several of the sunflower stalks for the winter. I like looking at them and the birds like them too.

@milaniet Thanks. I wish I could say that all of the sunflower stalks are still straight. Some have been knocked over by the high winds and some have been knocked over by birds who have landed a bit hard on the stalks. We are talking a few more broken stalks to the city's brush collection site today.

@bkbinthecity Thanks.

@sangwann Thank you. I am not certain if the bump is part of the sunflower or some creature. I am not tall enough to look at this closely until the sunflower stalk comes down.
