Firespike by danette

Firespike

While trimming my Firespike (Odontonema strictum), I pulled off this old flower. Normally, there are red "spikes" all up and down this stem.I thought all the detail was so interesting. I've never seen it curled over like this. The Firespike attracts hummingbirds. I actually saw one once in my garden. Apparently, they are rare here in S. Florida.
What a cool looking plant. Googled it to see what it looked like in flower! Nice. I like this capture of it.

Very nice, and impressed by your botanical knowledge

@anzere03 Thanks for your nice comments! I know mostly the common names but I thought since there is a world of people here, I'd add the botanical name. I used to buy plants wholesale, consulting a monthly book with which nurseries had which plants and they are all listed botanically to avoid confusion. I love plants!

That is such a cool find! At first glance, I thought it was some sort of sea shell.
