Today's word is "horse" and I wish I had more time to get a proper photo. I was raised around horses. My brother was a professional rodeo rider. I used to love to go to his rodeos. When we first moved to Coral Springs as kids, people rode their horses all over and there was a hitching post at the local McDonald's. But, it is so grown up here. I went to the neighboring town of Parkland to see if I could spot a horse. People have acreage there and it had dirt roads not that long ago. But, again, all built up and very exclusive. Nothing was happening at the Equestrian Park, but they did have a nice statue near City Hall. Reminds me a little of my brother. My family also had Thoroughbreds and named one after me: "Miss Danette". She did pretty well. :-)
Its a lovely statue - what a shame you didn't see any real horses in an area where there would have been lots of them around not so long ago. How quickly things change!!
@bardejov Thanks! Parland (the town next door) really still has the horsey image, there are just fewer homes with them. Many of the homes are on large pieces of land, but in gated communities or country club communities. Very wealthy there. You'd never know this statue sits in the middle of a round-a-bout and the traffic was constant.
@pamknowler I do miss having horses around all the time. My brother lives in Ocala, where there are still a number of Thoroughbred farms. When I lived there, I loved the spring when there were long shadows in the afternoon and the babies were about.
@soboy5@mittens@henrir@jodimuli@lynnb@paintdipper@dreams@anazad511 Thank you all for your lovely comments. It is a pretty statue. Too bad you have to get up close to see the detail and often the traffic is too busy to stop. It's still a "country" type of town, but has grown quite a lot from the rural days.
A great sentiment! Sorry there were no real horses around. There is a beautiful horse farm not far from me. It is on a main road, and the scene is beautiful, but the owner does not allow photographers on his property! Hope you find some to photograph! They are beautiful animals!
