My oldest son attended Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA for a few years in high school. I actually just packed away his dress uniform yesterday. He called me later to tell me one of the staff members who helped to mentor him had just died.
He was a Vietnam Veteran, a "tunnel rat", a Green Beret. He was awarded 3 Purple Hearts in addition to many other awards. He was so good with the young men at Riverside. The school gave him a very moving tribute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeLjMR2X8Y0&feature=youtu.be (the end is especially moving).
I noticed in his obituary they were asking for donations to the Wounded Warrior Project. It got me thinking that we feel so safe in our homes, that we forget about the daily sacrifices these men and women in the military make. They deserve more than we give them.
Really nice display, Danette. Military tributes are so moving and your sentiments were beautifully expressed. The Wounded Warrior Project is a favorite charity of ours.
