My father was born in this county, as was I, but there is still all this (recent) history that is unknown to me. We live in a relatively young area, as my town is just now celebrating 50 years.
A nearby town has an historical house (by our standards!). The house is almost 100 years old. I have never even driven by it! But, it was all decked out for Christmas and we spent the whopping $5 admission fee to see it on the last evening. There were only a handful of us on the tour, including a man who used to play with the family who lived in the home many years ago. That was quite cool.
The woodwork in the home has never been painted and it is beautiful. It is made of Dade County Pine, which is nearly indestructible. They had the home decorated as it would have been in the mid 1900's. They had one tree full of bubble lights. Here, there are lit antique tree toppers on display on the mantle.
One of the main roads in our area is Sample Road. I never knew why it was named this way. So much history just slips away.
Speaking of history...on New Year's Eve, my son text messaged me a question: did I know a particular family? I said "yes". I had gone to high school with one of the girls and I knew her cousin in college. Turns out, my son is friends with her sister's son and he was at their home! I have now reconnected with my friend after all these many years. What a great conversation we had. So...pass on those stories so the next generation knows their legacy!

What a unique and lovely collection of tree toppers! I think photography has had me dig a little deeper into the history of the area I have lived in for more than 30 years. Gonna keep digging! Happy New Year!
