It's an overcast, windy day here in Tampa. I have never seen roots like this (other than for Cypress trees).

I know it's Tampa, but it just looks cold! Which I'm sure it is (as far as us Floridians can stand cold!). Really unusual roots, would've assumed they were cyprus, like this shot.

Hmmm. . .makes you wonder why they rise up out of the ground like that? You would think they would stretch out underground.

@skipt07 Most likely to keep from being smothered since the ground is full of water. I just didn't realize that plants other than cypress trees had above ground roots.
