Nearing the springs by danette

Nearing the springs

As we came close to Three Sisters Spring, the water turned a clear green. They are fresh water springs that flow into Crystal River, then to the Gulf of Mexico. We parked the boat and swam into the mouth of the spring, which was a bit of a distance. The only other alternative to get there is via kayak as the passageway is small. The springs are cold--72 degrees. Jumping off the boat into that water did not make me a happy camper, but it was well worth the effort. During the winter months, manatees will stay in the springs since the water is warmer than other places (it stays the same 72 degrees year around).
What a lovely looking place and a beautiful shot of it. Interesting information, too.

Sounds like an awesome adventure. I just did some searching around, might plan an adventure that way in February during Reading Week.

@coreylablansphotography You definitely need to go to one of the springs. They are so magical. I had forgotten how beautiful in person.

@photographycrazy Huh! Hadn't even considered gators. Actually, too many people around. I've never seen gators in the populated springs; maybe in the ones left more pristine. At least you'd see them coming with crystal clear water.

Wonderful lines, tones, and lighting Danette!

I was fascinated when you would go down the keys and the water on one side was dark blue and the other side was bright blue-green.

This is very pretty. Looks just like the estuaries that feed into the Apalachicola River.

Gorgeous image. I used to have some land near central Wisconsin on a trout stream. I used to jump in to bathe, it was always 55°, well actually one time I didn't have the thermometer with me, but it was after a heavy rainfall, and the water was much colder than the usual. It was really a shock!

@bill_fe 55 degrees is pretty crazy! I think 72 is pretty frigid.

@danette I would just jump in, swim to a sandbar, bathe, and then swim back to shore, wouldn't stay in long at all, unless it was really hot outside.

Looks so peaceful.
