St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ammansville, TX

This Painted Church of Texas was built in 1917 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. These painted churches are known for the extensive detail painted inside. This particular one is less ornate than many of the others (see St. Mary's in my album recently and some from last September). This view is towards the back, so the more ornate altar isn't showing. It's a wonderfully warm church.
Wonderful shot. Love the tones and the symmetry.

Even though I live in Texas, I have not been on the Painted Churches tour. It is certainly something worth pursuing. This photo is perfectly beautiful, I love your camera angle! Thank you for the follow!

Can you imagine what it would cost in money and man hours to build this church today? Very elaborate! Do you have any idea how much of a Czech presence there is in Praha today?

@skipt07 Both Praha and Ammansville are essentially ghost towns. The churches still have their congregations. The one in Praha holds an annual Czech "homecoming" in August. This part of Texas is not well populated. It is soooo interesting to drive a few miles off the highway through nothing and see these churches in the distance. There is definitely a Czech influence in Texas with their pastries called Kolaches. My grandmother used to make them, so my mom gets quite excited to have them. We were unaware of their presence in Texas! All I can find is that they have assimilated into Texas culture and that about 12,000 residents still speak the language.
