East Berlin Guard Tower by danette

East Berlin Guard Tower

An exhibit at the Newseum includes a portion of the wall which separated East and West Berlin. This is the guard tower preventing anyone from crossing over. I once had the privilege to go into Communist East Berlin with a few classmates and my German teacher to visit some of her relatives. It was eerie, as we knew we were being watched.
Great pov and an interesting shot.

The movie “Bridge of Spies” brought home the wall’s brutal existence perfectly. This is such an eerie exhibit, oh my.

Wow! It really looks austere. I agree with @louannwarren about the "Bridge of Spies" movie. I can imagine just how you felt in East Berlin.

Great shot! And that must have been an eerie feeling to know that every move was being observed. How did you get this perspective??

@thewatersphotos The Newseum is 6 stories. The guard tower is located at the basement level (I think). So, this was open at the top. Much better photo than the one I took at the bottom looking up.

What an historical relic to share with us that included your personal story! We might only wish a time like that might never happen again!
