We came upon this Elk near the hotel. He certainly knew how to get where he wanted to go. We gave him space. A child almost ran by him. Fortunately, our friend cautioned the child to not approach the elk.

We came upon the elk while he was on the sidewalk near the hotel. We observed a safe distance and got no closer once we saw him. Then, he suddenly ducked under the ropes and continued on his way, nibbling the grass. He was undeterred! I was amazed he knew exactly what to do. Maybe he hangs out there.
Your reply to comments makes the story even funnier! Like the deer around here, they're quite used to people, and once they've had a look at you (and if I'm lucky, I got one photo) no amount of whistling or slapping the car door with make them bother to look at you again! (OK, and so I just looked like some crazy woman trying to flag down a deer!)
