As I upload this "sunny" photo, I am listening to the sentencing verdict for the murderer of 17 students and teachers at Stoneman Douglas HS in Parkland, Florida (4 miles from my house). After a ridiculous 4.5 years and a 3-month trial for just the SENTENCE, it appears he will be given life in prison.
It's sad but that is a part of our legal system. Occasionally we hear stories about people who were wrongfully charged for crimes that they didn't commit and how persistent lawyers and private investigators keep digging until the rightful criminal is charged. Because of that we have to endure appeals as they try to lower the sentence to life imprisonment even when there is absolute proof of who performed the act as in this case. Plus that's how lawyers keep making money.
A lovely photo, a simple beautiful flower that will fade too soon. My heart breaks for the families and loved ones who grieve so deeply their loss. My only solace is “Vengeance is Mine saith the Lord.” He will be held accountable to his Maker. God is a God of Love, but He is also a God of Justice who will Judge this man for all eternity. I don’t get much solace from the fact we taxpayers will have to keep him up until his dying day.
@bkbinthecity sadly, these families and the community did not receive closure. The murderer pled guilty years ago. This was simply a sentencing trial that was painful for all victims' families. The jury needed to be unanimous in their decision as to death or life in prison. Apparently, some could not choose death, even though he massacred 17 people in cold blood. The only solace is that there will not be the endless appeals if there had been a death sentence.
@calm I agree with your words. I know the community as a whole is crying over the verdict. The families have been through hell. Yes, God will be the final judge. I am sorry this person was born damaged, but there is also evil.
