Wild Florida Cracker Horses by danette

Wild Florida Cracker Horses

In North Florida, there is a large prairie that is now a state park. Horses had been left in Florida by the Spanish explorers in the 1500. They were used by the settlers and Native Americans. The horses are smaller, up to 5' tall. There is a herd that roams this prairie and I finally got to see them (from a distance).
Wonderful capture, Danette, and interesting information.

@gardenfolk I grew up knowing the term "Florida Cracker". While there is more to it than this, the term "cracker" comes from the sound a whip makes. A Florida Cracker was, at first, associated with the cow hunters of years ago. Now, it has become a term for a multi-generational Floridian. It is actually a compliment and not a slur (using the entire term).
